![]() ![]() Mengele acted within the norms of German science under the Nazi regime. And he was one of a number of medical professionals who selected victims to be murdered in the gas chambers at Auschwitz. He was one of dozens of biomedical researchers who conducted experiments on prisoners in Nazi concentration camps. Much of his medical research at Auschwitz supported the work of other German scientists. He was respected in his field and worked for one of the leading research institutions in Germany. He was a highly trained doctor and medical researcher, as well as a decorated war veteran. The truth about Mengele is even more disturbing. Some portray him as a mad scientist who conducted sadistic experiments with no scientific basis. ![]() Many of these portrayals distort the real facts of Mengele’s crimes and take him out of his historical context. His postwar life in hiding has come to represent the international failure to bring the perpetrators of Nazi crimes to justice.īecause of his infamy, Mengele has been the subject of numerous popular books, films, and television shows. ![]() His service at Auschwitz and the medical experiments he conducted there have made him the most widely recognized perpetrator of the crimes committed at that camp. Josef Mengele is one of the most infamous figures of the Holocaust. ![]() ![]() ![]() I'd be hiding under the bed shuddering without their help.Īnd a word about Stephen King: Out of almost 7,000 nominations you sent in, 1,023 of them were for the modern master of horror. Readers did nominate them, but the judges felt uncomfortable debating the inclusion of their own work - so it's up to me to tell you to find and read their excellent books! I personally, as a gigantic horror wuss, owe a debt of gratitude to this year's judges, particularly Hendrix, for their help writing summaries for all the list entries. One thing you won't see on the list is any work from this year's judges, Stephen Graham Jones, Ruthanna Emrys, Tananarive Due and Grady Hendrix. 100 Best Books Happy Ever After: 100 Swoon-Worthy Romances ![]() ![]() ![]() Of Scotland.Īt first, the girls can barely stand each other–Flora is both high-class and high-key–but before Millie knows it, she has another sort-of-best-friend/sort-of-girlfriend. ![]() The only problem: Mille’s roommate Flora is a total princess. To me this novel has all the makings of becoming a good movie. No Time to Spare really brings light to a tragic story of child abuse and misuse. The reader needs that sort of suspense and build in order to fully understand the complexity of all characters, how they relate to each other and how they relate to the supporting characters. ![]() After reading this novel I now know why Mauro did not fully explain both characters background in chapter 1. ![]() His main characters Sam MacAteer and Ariel Bauer, although on different sides of the law were really good characters overall. Despite starting off slow Mauro provides a really good drama with a romantic twist. Upon beginning my journey through the novel, which started off kind of slow in my opinion, I thought it was going to be a sketchy drama with little to no action or character development. ![]() This particular novel was much unexpected. ![]() ![]() I think most of you understand how hard the response on the series was for me. We’ll most likely see the original couples again in bonus content, but a spin-off series just isn’t in the cards at this time. ![]() I never intended to write more than that. I wanted to keep the world alive for you. ![]() The fun never ends, and I love books that keep my mind going even after I’ve finished them. I ended Nightfall and Fire Night how I did simply because Devil’s Night is a special world. The other characters who developed over the course of the series were just happy surprises, but I understand it’s hard to see glimpses of them and not want more. I’m sorry.ĭevil’s Night was always just the four romances. It’s always possible at some point down the road (never say never, right?), but at this time, there are no plans to write any more novels. I remembered it as an utterly luminous evocation of spring, summer and autumn in the countryside, seen through the eyes of the very last gnomes in Britain: “honest-to-goodness gnomes, none of your baby, fairy-book tinsel stuff, and they live by hunting and fishing like the animals and birds, which is only proper and right,” as BB wrote.
